چکیده

The Musculocutaneous nerve arises from the lateral cord of the brachial plexus, passes inferiorly and laterally, and then pierces through the coracobrachialis .After supplying it descends between the biceps and the brachialis, giving branches to both the muscles and continues as the lateral cutaneous nerve of the forearm. Variations in the origin, course, branching pattern, termination and connections of the musculocutaneous nerve (MCN) are not uncommon. Though its absence has been described previously but its real prevalence is unknown. A case of absence of the musculocutaneous nerve was observed during the dissection of the left arm of a male cadaver. The medial root of median nerve was found to be bifurcated and the area of innervation was supplied by lateral root of median nerve. From this, three branches emerged: one to the coracobrachialis muscle, another to the biceps brachii muscle and the third to the brachialis muscle. The knowledge of such Anatomical variations would be of value to the practicing neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetist and interventional radiologists, during surgical procedures, including brachial plexus block and in diagnostic clinical neurophysiology to avoid unexpected complication.

A Rare Bilateral Variation in the Formation of Median Nerve

The median nerve is formed by fusion of lateral (C5-C7) and medial (C8, T1) cords from the brachial plexus. Bilateral variations in the formation of median nerve are very rare. One of such variations was observed during the dissection of the upper limb of approximately a 30-35-year-old man cadaver, according to Grant s method. The median nerve was formed by the union of three roots on both side...

Case Report: Formation of Median Nerve by Three Roots

Atypical connections in the formation of the brachial plexus are prevalent and have been reported in different articles. The present report describes a case of variation of the median nerve observed in the Iranian male cadaver during routine trial dissection. There are three roots for median nerve. Median nerve is formed by joining two lateral and medial cords of brachial plexus. Third root ...

Variations of Median Nerve from Axillary Region to Cubital Fossa

Introduction: Median nerve (MN), one of terminal branches of brachial plexus, is commonly associated with several variations. This research aimed to review the literature related to the variations of MN from axillary region to cubital fossa. Methods: We searched Google Scholar, Science Direct, Springer, and PubMed electronic databases to compile reports related to the variation of MN published...

An unusual case of median nerve compression with ipsilateral supracondylar process

Abstract   The supracondylar process is a beak-like bony projection that arises from the anteromedial   surface of the humerus. The process has rarely been associated with   compression of the median nerve and seldom requires treatment. We report a case   of a supracondylar process that caused tenting of the median nerve with elbow extension   and pronation.
